Pupil Premium
At Woodland View Primary School we aim to give every child the opportunity to reach their full potential.
This encompasses academic progress and we aim to diminish the gap between disadvantaged and non-disadvantaged pupils. This is assisted by ensuring we also look after their social and emotional needs and well-being. We seek to provide an environment in which every member of the school is able to achieve success and fulfilment.
High expectations and consistency of progress and achievement for all pupils is embedded throughout our school, irrespective of gender, race, culture or socio-economic background. We therefore aim to give all children the same opportunities and experiences. For many children this is enhanced further by ensuring Pupil Premium is used to maximum effect.
What is Pupil Premium?
The Pupil Premium is an allocation of funding provided to schools to support children who may be vulnerable to underachievement. The amount received is dependent on the number of children who are eligible and have claimed for free school meals at any time in the last six years.
We also receive funding for children who fall into one of the following categories:
- pupils who are recorded as eligible for free school meals, or have been recorded as eligible in the past 6 years
- children looked after by local authorities, referred to as looked-after children
- children previously looked after by a local authority or other state care, referred to as previously looked-after children
- pupils who have parents serving in the armed forces
The Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011 and is allocated to schools to work with pupils who have been registered for free school meals (FSM) at any point in the last six years (Ever 6). Schools also receive funding for children who have been looked after continuously for more than 6 months (CLA), those who have previously been looked after (PLAC) and children of service personnel. Funding is based on those children eligible at the time of the October census date and is payable to the school in 4 instalments throughout the academic year.
To qualify for Pupil Premium funding you would need to be in receipt of one of the following:
- Universal Credit (provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400, as assessed by earnings from up to three of your most recent assessment periods)
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- The guarantee element of Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit (provided you're not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
- Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
We closely monitor the achievement of the all children, ensuring that their needs are clearly identified and that personalised support and provisions are provided. Quality First Teaching is our primary offer but in addition to this, early intervention and targeted support will be used to close any attainment gaps between our Pupil Premium children’s progress compared with the progress of their peers.
