Dear parents, please read on for news about Maths Week, Children in Need, Remembrance Day, Culture Day, our Blue Butterfly competition and Winter Wonderland.

Maths Week

This week, we are celebrating Maths Week! This is a week where we step away slightly from our every-day maths lessons to inspire our children and give them opportunities to enjoy looking at maths differently: through art and even picture books! We are certain that they are going to achieve some amazing things too!

The week has been launched with a short introduction from our maths ambassadors and Mrs Cox. She is particularly excited for the week ahead! The ambassadors challenged the children to think about when they might have used maths recently.

Mrs Cox has some exciting activities planned for the whole school including investigating mathematical picture books, creating some spectacular mathematical art and finding out about some incredible mathematicians through history. All children will have an opportunity to take part in our school mathematical scavenger hunt homework; this is something that siblings can work together on…the more creative, the better! Finally, there will be some mathematical puzzles sent out to you all to get your maths brains ticking! It would be great to hear about families looking at these puzzles together.

Please ask your children about what they have been doing this week and look out for updates throughout the week on our school blogs.

Above is Monday’s puzzle. Good luck!

Children in Need

Woodland View will be supporting Children in Need again this year, on Friday 15th November. This is a non-school uniform day therefore children can come to school wearing their own clothes, Pudsey or Children in Need clothing, or accessories (such as spots, dots, bright colours) in return for donating £1. A donation bucket will be on the gates at drop-off and collection times on Friday. If your child usually has PE on a Friday, they can still choose to wear their own clothes so long as they are able to participate in sports.

Remembrance Day

Our Year 6 Poppy Team did a great job last week selling poppies and remembrance goodies to children for the Royal British Legion. Thanks to their work and your kind donations, we have been able to raise funds for this important charity. I led an assembly this morning on how conflict makes us feel and what we can do to show respect and kindness towards supporting those who are negatively impacted by war and to those who work hard to avoid conflicts. Also, all classes will visit our Immersive Room for a peaceful Remembrance presentation and time for reflection.

We are looking forward to our first Culture Day which takes place next Monday. We are delighted that so many parents have contacted us to volunteer their time to visit school and share aspects of their culture with the children. As well as this, all classes will undertake a range of activities planned to enhance children’s knowledge and understanding of many different cultures.

Culture Day promises to be a big success and we can’t wait to share with you some of the successes through our class blog pages on the website. Please look out for these at the end of next week, and, of course, ask your children how their Culture Day was on Monday evening!

Blue Butterfly

The Blue Butterfly image is extremely important at Woodland View because it symbolises all of the ways we can stay safe. The children know, if you get that butterfly feeling in your tummy, something may not feel right and you may be in a situation that isn't healthy, happy or safe.

Recently we had an optional challenge for the children which resulted in an overwhelming number of entrants. Here is a video montage for you to watch and marvel at the creative range of posters we had.

These posters will help remind our children what to do if they are worried or need help. Well done to everyone who took part and thank you for the time and effort that went into making them.

Winter Wonderland - December 11th 4-6pm

I’m sure you’ve already seen some festive excitement beginning to build in shop windows and TV adverts. Well, at Woodland View we always look to make December a magical month for the children by providing many festive treats and experiences. Please see some of these examples in the Key Dates below.

Probably our main Christmas Event is Winter Wonderland. Plans are well underway to make this another great spectacle for our children, families and the whole community! Please mark the date (11th December 4-6pm) in your calendar so that you are available to come along and join us. Further details will be shared soon, along with how to purchase tickets.
