Photomontages

We have started a new art unit this week that is all to do with how artists use different types of media and how they consider the composition of their images carefully. We started off by considering photomontages and what this means. A photomontage is created by cutting out elements from a selection of photographic images to combine them and rearrange them in a new composition. We also found out about Hannah Hoch who was part of the Dada movement; art produced by Dada artists was often nonsensical. We looked at Chris Plowman's artwork - Metropolis: Cheese Grater City. This is a city scape created using various cheese grater images to look like buildings. We were then provided with our design brief: to design an eye-catching poster using a landscape setting that clearly advertises products from a particular department. We then considered a background for our image in order to really bring it to life!
