Significant inventors

Through our recent history learning, we have been looking at a variety of inventions, when they were invented and their significance in the modern world. We have also created timelines and discussed what copyright, trademark and patent mean.

This week, we focussed more on the inventors themselves! Working in small groups, the children were asked to create a fact file about a famous inventor. They had to research many different areas of the inventor’s life: when they were born, where they were born, where they went to school, where they lived, what they invented (and when), was there a reason for the invention, why was it so significant and any other interesting information about them. This was a great chance for the children to learn more about certain inventors and use their curiosity about famous/significant inventions to inspire them to want to find out more! Some of the inventors covered were, Alexander Graham Bell, Marie Curie, Thomas Edison, The Wright Brothers.

As you can see from below, there have been some wonderfully presented fact files!
