Bottle Tops and Factor Bugs!

Our first day back started off with a bit of a mystery! The children entered the classroom to discover a bunch of strange, named envelopes scattered around; full of bottle tops! They put on their detective hats and began to investigate! They next discovered a new book called 'The Lost Thing' by Shaun Tan, where they closely studied the front and back covers for more clues. Even better, Shaun had sent us a film clip of the book which featured the main character... a bottle top collector himself! In partners, they then used their inference skills to make notes on the characters' thoughts, feelings, interests and personality. 
After lunch, we learnt about factors, products and factor pairs. The children all did a fantastic job of creating their own factor pair bugs for a range of different whole numbers.
