Bletchley Park's newest recruits!
Today, we had a fabulous trip to Bletchley Park. The children are the newest recruits and have signed the secrets act...so we hope they've not told you too much!
Our day had several parts with a guided tour, some self-led exploration and an interactive session. We investigated the huts that were the base of so much code breaking during WW2 and saw the incredible Enigma machines. In our English lessons this week, we have been focused on a book set in Bletchley Park so it was also great to see the mansion and the small island on the lake too that were a key part of the first chapter.
It was fascinating to discover how many different combinations there were to unscramble on the Enigma machine and that this had to be done daily as the codes changed every 24 hours!
The children were impeccably behaved and were a credit to the school! Our guides and session leaders were extremely impressed with their knowledge too! What a fabulous way to finish our theme: Wars of the World.
