Codebreakers!
In preparation for our trip to Bletchley Park next week, Year 6 spent this afternoon learning a little bit about the history and events that took place at one of Britain's most famous buildings!
After learning about the life and times of Alan Turning, the children explored some of the history of Bletchley Park, the location of the old manor house and why it was so vital to the Allies during WWII.
Once we had explored these elements, it was time for us to have a go at some codebreaking of our own! We investigated and examined three different ways of creating and decoding encrypted codes: The Caesar Shift Code, The Pigpen Cipher and The Transposition Cipher. It was amazing fun to try and break the different codes this afternoon; it was wonderful to see the children working cooperatively in a number of pairs and groups to help with the war effort.
