Who will you ally with?
This afternoon. Year 6 started their work on our conflict theme for this half-term - Wars of the world!
To begin this theme, we discussed and defined the term 'conflict' and explored some of the learning that had taken place in previous years around the subject. As for our new topic, we discussed some of the main causes that led to the start of WW1. We looked at the MAIN (militarism, alliances, imperialism and nationalism) causes of WWI before discussing alliances in more detail.
The children were spilt into eight different European countries and asked to think carefully about who they could/would form alliances with. Each group was given some information and asked to choose three other countries that they believed would be a valuable ally to them through the Great War. After much deliberation, and after being given some interesting intel, each of the groups had to make a decision about which three countries they would form alliances with, giving detailed reasoning for their choices.
It was wonderful to see the children working in teams and as a year group to discuss and collaborate over such important decisions.
