NFL Regional Competition
Today, a team of Year 6 children represented the school at the East Midlands NFL Regional Competition. This competition follows on from the tournament that the children were involved in last half-term where they finished 1st in the county!
The competition saw Woodland View face off against three other county champion schools (from all over the East Midlands) in 20-minute matches. The team got off to a great start, winning their first and second game, keeping good control and command on both offence and defence. In our third game, we had our toughest challenge yet. We faced off against another 2-0 team to see who would have the best overall record. After a challenging game, it was amazing to see the team dig deep at the end and stay resilient on both offence and defence to win their third and final group game! This left us with a 3-0 record and the #1 seed going into the semi-finals.
After being reseeded, we played the #4 seed in a strong performance where we didn't concede a point (winning 19-0). The final saw us face-off against our opponents from the third game. This game was going to be difficult and a chance to play in the next round was on the line.
Similar to the previous game against these opponents, it was a very tough game! However, we came out on top, shutting out our opponents on defence and playing with great accuracy and control on offence! This meant that the team came 1st overall in the competition!! The team will now go on to the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS on June 26th in Loughborough!
We are incredibly proud of the team as they have shown amazing sportsmanship, an outstanding understanding of the sport and put all their hard work and extra training over the last few weeks into practise. We wish them luck at the next stage and in their quest to become the best NFL Flag team in Great Britain!
