DNA Detectives
Mr Horsley's laptop has been stolen! As part of the investigation to find the culprit, Year 6 were asked to assist with extracting DNA from strawberries.
After finding out about DNA, the children were tasked with crushing strawberries and extracting DNA from them. After squishing the strawberries into a pulp, they used kitchen paper to separate the liquid from the solid. After this, we poured hand sanitiser down the side of the cup and, once it had reached the juice, we could see how the DNA had been separated and how the nucleus of the DNA had become visible.
We discussed how this could help us to identify which of our main suspects could have stolen the laptop. After analysing our results, we determined that Suspect C was the culprit…
