Life Education Sessions
This week, year 6 had their life education session. We considered what our bodies need to stay healthy - both physically and mentally. We considered how important it is to look after ourselves as well as each other. We also talked about social media and gaming, why these things have specific age ratings and why these can have a negative effect on our mental well-being.
We went on to discuss what ‘risk’ is and how all drugs, including medicines, can be risky. The children were amazing at understanding the difference between medicines, legal and illegal drugs. We were amazed at what we learnt about smoking and how laws have changed over the years. We also discussed vapes and why these were designed to help people stop smoking, but these are still dangerous too.
The children responded with maturity when considering the decisions that a boy needed to make during a video scenario. We discussed the fact that they are in charge of their decisions and should never feel pressurised to do anything that they don’t want to do. We talked about how it is difficult to stand up for what is right at times and how it might be useful to set up a ‘code word’ with you, their parents, as a way of asking for help if they ever needed it. Education is knowledge and knowledge gives them the power to make their own decisions! Remember year 6….you've got the power!
Harold even put in an appearance at the end and told us a joke! A fabulous session and fabulous participation from the whole class! Well done year 6!
