For our topic this half term we have been finding out about Ancient Greece. Part of this involved researching Grecian pots. We found out interesting facts such as, only men were allowed to make pots in the Ancient Greek times! Fortunately, times have changed so we were all able to participate in making our own pots inspired by the Greeks. We are looking forward to finishing them off soon but we are very proud of our efforts so far.
In Year 5 we are given the opportunity to learn to play a new instrument. We spent the first couple of sessions testing the instruments out and seeing which one was best for us. The instruments we got to choose from were the clarinet, trombone, trumpet or baritone. In addition to learning the instrument, during each session we sing songs, learn musical terminology and will soon begin to learn to read music.
Year 5 had the brilliant opportunity to take part in a drama workshop this half term, delivered by Jack and Julia from The Royal and Derngate. From the off, everyone was engaged and took part in all the activities, of which there were many. First we had to warm up our bodies and voices. Then we started to think about body language and facial expressions. Following on from that we generated a tableau for each scenario given. The final part of the workshop was to explore the book, Once Upon an Ordinary School Day. In teams we all worked together to continue the story and create the not so ordinary dreams, which we then acted out using the skills we had been taught. The ideas generated were really adventurous and everyone had a great time performing them.
