Sportshall Athletics County Finals
Earlier today, a team of Year 6 children represented the school, and the district, at the Sportshall Athletics County Finals in Kettering. This event was made possible thanks to the children's immense second place finish at the district competition in January where they finished an impressive 2nd overall! Today was a chance to see how the squad matched up against other schools from across all of Northamptonshire.
Today saw the children compete against 15 of the counties best athletics teams. In this event, the children compete in a range of different track and field events, working as individuals to score points for the school overall. The events include team and obstacle relays, long distance running races, jumping, throwing and speed bouncing.
After competing brilliantly and having some good success on the track, it was announced that we had finished 2nd overall! By amassing an outstanding 594 points, this put us 64 points behind first place but very comfortably in second! This result means that we finished second in the whole county, finishing above over 100 other schools who participated in the competition this year!
It was a delight for the staff to see the children cooperating, encouraging and being incredibly sporting towards each other and we were extremely impressed with the behaviour of each member of the team. Each child demonstrated our school values fully throughout the event (and also in the previous round).
We love sportshall athletics as a school and it was wonderful to see children with such a great passion for sport enjoying the competition and being incredibly successful with it too.
