The chicks have hatched!

NewsComments Off on The chicks have hatched!

Year 5 have had ten eggs in an incubator over the last week. By Friday, 8 had hatched but the other two failed to hatch. After the chicks had hatched they remained in the incubator for 24 hours to dry out their feathers and to rest after the energy used to peck their way out of their shell.
Then they were moved to the brooder box, with food, water and a light bulb to keep them warm.

Here are the chicks when they were about 3 days old.

There are two female and six male chicks.
